Heavy Rain Alert: Since the onset of the pre-monsoon season in the country, a noticeable shift in weather patterns has been observed. This change in weather has triggered a fresh spell of rainfall across several states. The 2025 monsoon season witnessed excellent rainfall nationwide, leading experts to forecast vigorous rainfall for 2026. However, according to reports released a few days ago, there is a possibility that the El Niño phenomenon could impact rainfall levels this year. Amidst this scenario, the pre-monsoon season is now set to make its presence felt across the country. Consequently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for several states for April 28, 29, and 30.

Northwest India

The pre-monsoon season is poised to become active across Northwest India. In light of this, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert indicating that heavy rainfall is expected at various locations across Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh on April 28, 29, and 30. There is also a possibility of light rainfall in several areas during this period. Furthermore, alerts have been issued regarding strong winds gusting at speeds of 30–40 kilometers per hour, dust storms, and thunderstorms. Additionally, there is a possibility of hailstorms in certain regions.

Eastern and Central India

Eastern and Central India are expected to witness a change in weather conditions. Consequently, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for April 28, 29, and 30, forecasting heavy rainfall in several places—and light rainfall in others—across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and Jharkhand. During this period, alerts have also been issued for strong winds blowing at speeds of 30–50 km/h, dust storms, thunderstorms, and—in some areas—hailstorms across various districts.

South India

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for South India, warning that Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Mahe, Yanam, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema will experience heavy rainfall on April 28, 29, and 30. During this period, an alert has also been issued for strong winds—gusting at speeds of 30–50 kilometers per hour—and thunderstorms in several locations.

Northeast India

Pre-monsoon weather activity is set to intensify across Northeast India. Consequently, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert indicating that Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, and Nagaland will witness heavy rainfall on April 28, 29, and 30. There is also a possibility of strong winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms occurring in various places during this time.

West India

The impact of changing weather conditions will also be felt in West India. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert stating that certain parts of Maharashtra will experience further heavy rainfall on April 28, 29, and 30. Additionally, an alert has been issued regarding the likelihood of strong winds and dust storms during this period.
