Winds, particularly in eastern India and the northeastern states, could blow at speeds of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour. A thunderstorm and rain alert has been issued for West Bengal, Bihar, Sikkim, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. This is expected to bring some relief from the heat, but the risk of thunderstorms and lightning may also increase.
Although temperatures are rising rapidly in many states across the country these days, daytime temperatures are consistently rising in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, and most parts of Uttar Pradesh. In some cities, the mercury has reached 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department says that if temperatures continue to rise at this rate, a heatwave alert may be issued in the coming days.
What will the weather be like in Delhi-NCR?
Summer has begun to show its intensity in Delhi-NCR in the early days of March. The capital, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, is experiencing intense daytime sunshine and hot winds. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is currently recorded about five degrees above normal, resulting in mild warmth in the mornings and nights. The maximum daytime temperature is expected to hover around 34 to 35 degrees Celsius, which is considered high for March. The sky will remain mostly clear, and the afternoon heat may be felt more intensely due to the bright sunshine.
The Meteorological Department says that there is little chance of rain in Delhi-NCR for the next few days, and the weather will remain dry. However, occasional light winds may provide some relief. The minimum temperature is expected to hover between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the strong winds may also slightly improve air quality. At present, the AQI remains between poor to moderate category, but with increase in wind speed, the pollution level is expected to decrease.
Heat in Uttar Pradesh, Rain in Uttarakhand
The heat wave continues to intensify in Uttar Pradesh. Temperatures have reached 35 degrees Celsius in most districts, and in some places, even higher. Several districts in Agra, Jhansi, and the Bundelkhand region have reached close to 38 degrees Celsius, causing intense heat during the afternoon. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry in the western and central parts of the state, but light clouds are expected in some districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The Meteorological Department predicts that some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh may experience light drizzle or light rain over the next two days, potentially bringing a slight drop in temperatures. Meanwhile, the activation of a Western Disturbance in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand is signaling a change in the weather. Cloudy skies, light rain, and snowfall are expected in some places, especially in the higher elevations. This will bring down temperatures in the mountains and bring a slight chill.
Weather to Change in Bihar and Jharkhand
The next 48 hours are considered extremely important in Bihar from a weather perspective. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for strong storms, rain accompanied by thunderstorms, and lightning in several districts of the state. The weather, especially in the Seemanchal region’s Purnia, Kishanganj, and Araria districts, is expected to experience rapid changes. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in these areas. Overcast skies will remain, and thunderstorms and rain are possible. Due to the strong winds and clouds, temperatures may drop temporarily.
A yellow alert has also been issued for districts such as Darbhanga, Samastipur, Supaul, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, Saharsa, Madhepura, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Khagaria, and Munger. Light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds is expected in these areas. The Meteorological Department has specifically warned about the risk of lightning and advised people to avoid standing in open fields, farms, and under trees.
According to the Meteorological Department, the effects of this changing weather may also be felt in some areas of Jharkhand. Cloudy skies and light rain are expected in the northern and eastern districts of Jharkhand. However, this change will not last long, and temperatures may rise again.
Don’t ask about the weather in Punjab and Haryana.
The heat is steadily increasing in Punjab and Haryana. People in both states are experiencing hot weather due to the intense sunlight during the day. Hisar in Haryana was among the hottest places, with a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius, nearly six degrees above normal. Ambala, Karnal, Gurugram, and Bhiwani also recorded temperatures several degrees above normal.
Talking about cities in Punjab, temperatures are also rising rapidly in Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, and Faridkot. The Meteorological Department predicts that temperatures may rise further in the coming days. If this situation persists, heatwave-like conditions could soon develop. For now, the sky will remain clear, and no significant rainfall or storms are forecast.
Weather in Himachal and Kashmir
Due to the increased activity of the Western Disturbance, the weather in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir may change. A yellow alert for rain and thundershowers has been issued in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. Light snowfall is also possible in some high-altitude areas. This will cause a drop in temperatures and increase the feeling of cold.
The weather in Jammu and Kashmir will also remain variable over the next two to three days. Many parts of the valley will remain cloudy, and light rain or snowfall may occur at some places. The Meteorological Department predicts that temperatures in the higher mountain areas may drop by four to six degrees.
Weather in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
Heat is rapidly increasing in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Temperatures in many cities of Rajasthan have reached close to 40 degrees Celsius. Areas like Pilani and Barmer have recorded maximum temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius, causing people to experience intense heat during the afternoon. According to the Meteorological Department, no major weather activity is currently expected in these states.
Temperatures are also rising rapidly in many cities of Madhya Pradesh, with many places recording between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists say that if temperatures continue to rise at this rate, a heatwave situation could develop in the coming days.
What is the situation in South India?
The weather remains stable in the southern Indian states. Partly cloudy skies are expected in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, but no significant rainfall warning has been issued at this time. Daytime temperatures may remain slightly higher than normal, making people feel hot.
According to the Meteorological Department, the heat wave may gradually increase in many parts of South India over the next few days. However, due to the influence of the ocean, temperatures may remain relatively moderate in coastal areas.
Increasing Heat in Gujarat and Maharashtra
Temperatures are also gradually increasing in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Daytime temperatures in many cities in both states have reached around 34 to 35 degrees Celsius. Due to mostly clear skies, the effect of bright sunshine is visible during the day.
According to the IMD, no major weather changes are expected in these states at present. Therefore, the heat wave may intensify in the coming days. People have been advised to avoid the strong sunlight during the day and drink adequate water.
Weather in Northeastern States
The weather in the states of Northeastern India may experience a complete change in the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is possible in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, and parts of West Bengal between March 9 and 11. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour during this period.
Additionally, the risk of lightning strikes has been warned in many locations. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant and stay in safe places during bad weather. However, the rain may temporarily bring down temperatures and provide some relief from the heat.
