New Delhi. Universal Account Number (UAN Number) is the account in which the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is deposited. To check your Provident Fund (PF) balance, you need to first activate your UAN number. After activating UAN, you will be able to check your PF balance online. The concept behind UAN is that there should be only one account number for a customer, no matter how many jobs the customer changes.
While changing jobs, you have to share your UAN with the new company, so that your previous balance can be transferred to the new account, so let’s know how you can update your UAN number online.

You can generate your UAN number like this sitting at home.
1- First you go to the official website of EPFO www.epfindia.gov.in.
2- After this select ‘Our Services’ and click on ‘For Employees’.
3- Click on the user ‘Member UAN / Online Services’.
4- Then click on ‘Activate Your UAN’ (It will be present on the bottom right side of the Important Links).
5-Now enter your personal details like UAN, Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number and Captcha and then click on ‘Get Authorization Pin’.
6- OTP will come on your registered mobile number. You have to click on ‘I Agree’ and press enter the OTP.
7- Finally click on ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.
