E-Passport Applying : People living in India need a variety of documents. Traveling outside India requires a passport. Previously, obtaining a passport required a lengthy process. However, now the process has become easier online. A major step has been taken towards making passports more technology-driven. E-passports are now being issued in the country.

These are more advanced than traditional passports. This initiative was launched under the Passport Seva Program 2.0. Its aim is to make international travel safer, faster, and more reliable. The electronic chip in e-passports digitally stores travelers’ details, making the verification process smoother. If you’re considering obtaining a new e-passport, learn the complete process.

What is an e-passport?

An e-passport looks similar to a regular Indian passport, but it contains a secure RFID chip and antenna. This chip stores your personal details and biometric information. The data is secured through encryption, ensuring no discrepancy between the information printed on the passport and the digital record. This speeds up identity verification at immigration and strengthens security. To identify an e-passport, a small golden chip mark is printed below the national emblem on its cover.

What documents will be required?

It is essential to bring certain essential documents with you during the application process. Generally, one of the following documents: Aadhaar card, voter ID card, or PAN card is required for ID proof. Address proof includes an electricity bill, bank statement, or ration card. Date of birth proof requires a birth certificate, 10th-grade mark sheet, or other valid document. If you are reissuing your passport, you will also need to bring your old passport. Original and self-attested photocopies of all documents are required.
