The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is constantly making efforts to make transactions in NPS easier for its subscribers. Most things which were not possible in online mode can now be done online. Earlier, any member had to submit physically for change in the nominee details. But now it can be done online.
At the end of last year, PFRDA issued a circular allowing e-sign-based online facility to change the nomination through the login credentials of the subscribers. Earlier, existing NPS subscribers who want to change their nomination to their Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) were required to submit a physical S2 form for the respective Nodal Officers, Corporates or POPs for updation. But now it can be done online by accessing your CRA system (Central Record Keeping Agencies) with your login credentials.
If you are planning to change your NPS nomination details, then you should know about the rules related to nomination: –
- In the event of the death of the nominee subscriber will be entitled to receive all the money owed in the NPS account.
- If the customer has a family at the time of nomination, then all the nominees should belong to his family only.
- If the nomination is done in favor of a person who does not belong to the subscriber’s family, then that nomination will be considered invalid.
- Any nomination made before marriage will be considered invalid after the marriage of the customer. A fresh nomination customer will have to make it to her wedding.
- If the subscriber has no family at the time of nomination, the nomination can be in favor of any person. However, if the subscriber subsequently acquires a family, the earlier nomination will be considered invalid and the subscriber only has to make a new nomination in favor of one or more persons belonging to his family.
- If the child of the Subscriber [or as such, the child of the deceased son of the subscriber] was adopted by some other person, such child shall be excluded from the Subscriber’s family.
- If the nomination is wholly or partially in favor of a minor, the Subscriber may appoint a prominent person in his family, as the Guardian of Minor Nominee predeceases the Subordinate Nominee.
- If there is no dominant person in the family, the subscriber may appoint another person as the guardian of the minor nominee.
Nomination made under NPS can be amended at any time by the subscriber. If a subscriber wishes to exclude her husband and her dependent parents solely for the purpose of nomination, they may do so by giving notice in writing to the designated arbitrator of this scheme.
