How to deactivate EPFO old UAN number

0

Old UANs can be deactivated. EPFO subscribers have both online and offline methods for this change.

EPFO UAN: More than one of our Provident Fund (PF) accounts are often opened on changing jobs in the organic sector. There is a big problem in keeping a record of the funds of different PF accounts. EPFO UAN i.e. Universal Account Number facility is available for the employees to see the details of these accounts in one place. From this account, different PF account of the employee can be seen at the same place. Many times it happens that on changing jobs, the new employer also generates the UAN of the employee. In such a situation, more than one UAN gets allocated near the same implant. It is quite confusing to record your PF for employees from different UANs. To avoid this, additional UANs or older UANs can be deactivated. EPFO subscribers have both online and offline methods for this change.

How to deactivate old UAN offline?

If you have two UAN numbers, to get the old UAN deactivated, you must first inform the employer. You can also give information directly to EPFO by emailing uanepf@epfindia.gov.in. In the email, mention all your UANs and their related information. After this, verification will be done by EPFO and all your old UANs will be deactivated. Only the latest UAN will be active. After this, you have to apply for PF transfer. On this application, EPFO will transfer the funds of all your old PF accounts to the new UAN and its associated PF account.

What is online process?

  • Employees will have to apply for transfer of all the old PF funds to the new or latest account through One Member One EPF account by visiting https://www.epfindia.gov.in/.
  • You will have to log in with your existing UAN and password in One Member One EPF account.
  • Now go to request for transfer of account in online services and apply for transfer of funds from your old PF accounts to the new UAN linked account.
  • In this case, information will be available to the EPFO system that one is transferring funds from one UAN to another UAN. After that the EPFO will verify your details and will be aware of multiple UANs. Upon completion of verification, EPFO will automatically deactivate all your old UANs. You will get information about this through an SMS on the mobile number registered in the EPFO. After this, you can be asked about whether to keep your new UAN active or not. Then the funds of all your old PF accounts will be transferred to the new UAN linked PF account.

Why two UAN gets allotted?

The most common reason for the second UAN being allotted is that the exit date is not updated by the old employer. Generally, the old Employer Electronic Invoice and Return (ECR) does not update the Employee’s Lost Working Day i.e. the last date. Apart from this, there is an important reason if the employee does not provide his old UAN number to the new employer. In such a situation, the new company allots a new UAN number.
