How to register vintage vehicles, here is the complete process

With an aim to maintain vintage vehicles and preserve this heritage, the registration process of vintage motor vehicles has been formalised.




There is good news for the lovers of vintage motor vehicles. If you own a vintage vehicle, you can now register it. In order to maintain these vehicles and preserve this heritage, the registration process of vintage motor vehicles has been formalised. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet that no rules exist to regulate the registration-process in different states. The new rules will facilitate the process of retaining the old number for already registered vehicles and including the “VA” series (Distinctive Registration Mark) for new registration.

Vehicles already registered can retain their original registration mark. However, for new registrations, the registration mark will be specified as “XX VA YY8”, where VA stands for vintage, XX is the state code, YY will be the two-letter series and “8” will be the state registration authority. The number allotted by the company will be between 0001 to 9999. New registration fee- Rs.20,000 and for subsequent re-registration it will be Rs.5,000.

According to a ministry release, under the new rules, all two-wheeler/four-wheeler vehicles which are 50 years or more old and preserved in their original form and which have not undergone any significant change, will be recognized as vintage motor vehicles. Will go

Application for registration/re-registration shall be submitted as per Form 20 and should be accompanied by insurance policy, requisite fee, invoice of entry in case of imported vehicles and old RC in case of vehicle already registered in India .

The certificate of registration as per Form 23A will be issued by the State Registration Authority within 60 days.

For regular/commercial purposes, vintage motor vehicles cannot be operated on the roads.
