LPG means LPG connection, petroleum companies provide personal accident cover to the customer. This insurance up to Rs 50 lakh is as a financial help in the event of an accident due to gas leakage or blast from LPG cylinder. Petroleum companies have partnerships with insurance companies for this insurance. Currently, insurance on LPG connection of Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum is through ICICI Lombard.
Dealer will be responsible

If there is leakage or blast in the cylinder then it is the responsibility of the dealer and the company. This order was given by the National Consumer Forum on the accident which took place about 16 years ago and it is still in force. The National Consumer Forum had said in its decision that under the Marketing Displays Guidelines 2014 for LPG distribution, it is decided that if the dealer supplies the defective cylinder, it cannot put its responsibility on the complaint. Guidelines say that the dealer should check whether the cylinder is exactly right before delivery.

Compensation liability for loss due to LPG cylinder accident is Rs 50 lakh per incident and Rs 10 lakh per person. This compensation is payable in these cases. >> It is not in the name of any individual customer, but every customer is covered in this policy. He does not have to pay any premium for this.

>>  Keep a copy of the FIR, prescription and medical bills for the treatment of injured and postmortem report on death, death certificate.

>> In case of accident, compensation is claimed on behalf of the distributor. The insurance company deposits the claim amount with the respective distributor and from here it reaches the customer.

In case of an accident with a gas cylinder, first of all a police report has to be filed. After this, the concerned area office investigates what is causing the accident. If the accident is an LPG accident, then the LPG distributor agency / area office will inform the insurance office’s local office about this. After this, the claim file is filed with the concerned insurance company. The customer does not need to apply or contact the insurance company directly for the claim.
