Weather Update: There is a possibility of rain in West Bengal and Odisha due to the formation of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal extends to Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh. Due to its effect, there is a possibility of rain in various districts of West Bengal from Wednesday to Sunday. If the pressure area is large then it will turn into a cyclone. Which will be named ‘Remal’. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in three southern districts of West Bengal on Saturday and Sunday. There is a possibility of strong winds along with rain in many districts.

There is a possibility of rain in the northern districts of Odisha. India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information on Wednesday. The IMD said the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh is likely to move north-eastwards and intensify into a depression by the morning of May 24.

“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal off the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh,” the IMD said. Balasore from May 24, the IMD said. Heavy rainfall (seven cm to 11 cm) is expected at isolated places in the district and moderate rainfall in other northern Odisha districts. IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea on May 23 and 24 as the sea condition is expected to be rough to very rough.

The Meteorological Department said that on May 22, wind speed ranging from 35-45 km per hour to 55 km per hour is likely to prevail over South Bay of Bengal. It will gradually increase to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over central and adjoining South Bay of Bengal from the morning of 23rd May.

The IMD said it would be very likely to occur with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over adjoining areas of North Bay of Bengal from the morning of May 24 and over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas from the morning of May 25. It will last for 24 hours over northwest and east central Bay of Bengal. Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) requested the district magistrates to remain alert and prepared to deal with any situation.
