IMD Rainfall Alert: Due to a low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala on February 21 and 22 (today and tomorrow). Additionally, maximum temperatures across northwest India are expected to rise by two to four degrees over the next seven days.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains will occur in South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala on February 21 and 22. Scattered to very light to moderate rains and strong winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in Kerala and Mahe on February 21 and 22.
Scattered to very light rains with thunderstorms and lightning will occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on February 21 and 24, South Interior Karnataka on February 21 and 23, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Gangetic West Bengal on February 23 and 24. Rains will occur in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from February 23 to 25. Rain and snowfall are expected at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh on February 23 and in Uttarakhand on February 23 and 24.
Delhi heats up, daytime temperatures could reach 33 degrees Celsius next week
Meanwhile, the national capital is experiencing a gradual increase in heat, with the minimum temperature rising. The Meteorological Department reported on Saturday that the minimum temperature in the capital was 14.2 degrees Celsius, about 2.4 degrees above normal, with bright sunshine. The department has indicated that temperatures are expected to rise over the next six days. Both minimum and maximum temperatures could be up to five degrees above normal. According to the department’s forecast, daytime temperatures in the city are also likely to rise sharply. The maximum temperature could rise by more than five degrees above normal, crossing the 30-degree mark and reaching 33 degrees by Friday next week.
