The 5th Test match of the series between India and England (IND vs ENG 5th Test) has been canceled for the time being but it can be organized in future. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the ECB and the Indian board will hold talks on re-organizing the canceled Test match.
New Delhi. The fifth and final Test match of the series between India and England (IND vs ENG 5th Test) has been canceled at the last moment. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that this match can be organized in the future. The cricket boards of both the countries are in talks about this. Currently, India is leading 2-1 in this series.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a statement issued on Friday, “The ECB and the Indian Board will work towards re-organizing the fifth Test match of the canceled series.” There will be no compromise on the safety of the players. The statement further said, “Due to the strong relationship between the BCCI and the ECB, the Indian Board has offered to hold the canceled Test match (5th Test of the series in Manchester) in the future.” Both the boards will work towards finding a window to reschedule this Test match.
Jay Shah further said in the statement, ‘BCCI has always maintained that the safety and well-being of the players is paramount and there will be no compromise on that aspect. We would like to apologize to the fans for not being able to complete an exciting series. Earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said, “After ongoing discussions with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth Test between England and India at Old Trafford has been cancelled.”
It is expected that India can play this fifth Test in England during the limited overs series next year. If this happens, then the fans will have to wait till next year for the result of this series. After Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun, the players were under threat after assistant physio Yogesh Parmar was found positive for Covid-19.
The ECB said, ‘In view of the increasing cases of Kovid in the team, India is not able to field its team.’ According to BCCI sources, the report of the players’ test came negative, but the players did not want to risk being in isolation for 10 days in case the next test came positive. In such a situation, it was decided to cancel the fifth Test.
