New Delhi: Many Indians are now preparing to travel abroad as COVID restrictions are eased and regular foreign flights resume. However, getting a passport is getting difficult right now. Indian citizens will have to wait till 2024 to successfully schedule a visiting passport appointment.
Meanwhile, despite the long duration of the passport application process, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has devised a separate scheme for an early passport issuance under the Tatkal scheme.
The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India issues Indian passports through a network of 37 passport offices spread across the country and 180 Indian Embassies and Consulates abroad. People may require some additional documents for immediate application in terms of paperwork and verification. However, Tatkal passports get delivered in 1-3 days.
Understand step by step how to apply for tatkal passport
- Visit the official website of Passport Seva www.passportindia.gov.in
- Register yourself by clicking on New User Registration option. If you are an old user, log in.
- After registering yourself, log in with your User ID and Password.
- You will see two options i.e. Fresh and Re-issue. Select the appropriate option.
- Click on the ‘Tatkal’ option from the Scheme Type menu.
- After downloading the application form, fill it.
- Submit the online form.
- Finish the payment process and take a print out of the payment receipt.
- Schedule an appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra.
