Indian Railways: How many types of waiting lists are there in Railways, know which one gets the confirmed ticket first.

Indian Railways: People traveling long distances often prefer to travel by train. This is because it makes traveling easier as well as cheaper. But during festivals, people often face difficulty in traveling by train. Because the seats in the train get filled one to two months before the festival.

In such a situation, you buy a waiting ticket, but you do not know whether it will be confirmed or not. Many people complain that the ticket was not confirmed even after the waiting list was reduced, whereas your partner’s ticket got confirmed even after the waiting list was long.

To understand this, first of all it should be known that how many types of waiting lists are there in the train. Because only on the basis of waiting list you will be able to find out whether your seat is confirmed.

How many types of waiting lists are there?

There are many types of ticket waiting in Indian Railways. In today’s article we will tell you in detail about all these waiting lists.

  • GNWL
  • RLWL
  • PQWL
  • TQWL
  • RSWL
  • RAC

This type of waiting list is confirmed first.

GNWL General Waiting List – This waiting ticket is issued from the same station from where the train originates. For example, if the train is starting from Delhi and you have also taken your ticket from Delhi itself, then such waiting list is issued on these tickets.

There are more chances of getting the ticket confirmed in this train, because the train is also starting from the place from where you have booked the ticket. In such a waiting list, if GNWL/6 is written on your ticket, then you can understand that there is a waiting list of 6 seats for your seat to be confirmed. As soon as any passenger who has booked a ticket among these 6 cancels his ticket, your seat will be confirmed.

PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List)

Pooled quota waiting list is for an intermediate station in a long distance train. In this, the passenger wants to travel to any station between the place where the train is starting and its last stop. Since you are starting your journey from a mid-station and want to get down before the last stop of the train, the chances of it getting confirmed are very less.

This is because most of the people have already booked train tickets for long distances. It is difficult to get confirmed tickets only for those who want to travel at 5 to 6 stations in between.

TQWL Ticket (Tatkal Quota Waiting List)

Many people buy tickets in Tatkal also, but even in this they are not able to get a confirmed seat. In such a situation, they have to travel only with waiting tickets. Tatkal quota waiting list means that Railways does not have any quota, which means that there is only a chance of your ticket getting confirmed.

This is because Tatkal tickets in trains are limited to number only. When all the seats in the train are full, people book Tatkal tickets, but when Tatkal seats are also filled, there is no chance of getting the Tatkal waitlisted ticket confirmed.

RSWL ticket

Tickets with RSWL code also have very less chances of getting confirmed. This type of waiting list is written on the tickets of those passengers who book tickets for a station that is some distance away from the train’s originating station.

The chances of such tickets getting confirmed are less. This is because most passengers book tickets for long distance travel. The number of passengers traveling at only 4 to 5 stations is less.
