Indian Railways Rules: This news is extremely important for train travelers. If you think that the TTE will wait for you until the next station even after the train leaves your boarding station, you’ll have to change this habit. Indian Railways is about to make a major change to train boarding procedures, which will directly impact passengers with confirmed, RAC, and waiting tickets. Once the new system is implemented, even a slight delay could result in someone else getting your seat.

TTEs will no longer wait

Until now, the rule was that if a passenger did not board the train at their designated boarding station, the TTE would wait for them until the next station. If the passenger was not found there, their seat would be given to a passenger with a waiting or RAC ticket. But now this process is about to change. Under the new system, as soon as the TTE detects during checking that the passenger has not boarded at their boarding station, they will immediately mark that seat as not turned up on their handheld device (EFT).

Vacant seats will be allotted immediately.

As soon as “Not Turn Up” is entered, the system will recognize the seat as vacant and immediately allocate it to another passenger on the train with a waiting list or RAC ticket. Significantly, the seat allotment information will be sent directly to the passenger’s mobile phone, eliminating the need for passengers to repeatedly visit the TTE for confirmation.

Software changes will be made.

The Railway Ministry is making necessary modifications to the railway software to implement this change. The Railway Board has issued instructions to the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). This new system can be implemented in trains across the country once the system is updated.

Relief for RAC and Waitlisted Passengers

This new technology will benefit passengers traveling with RAC and waiting tickets the most. As soon as a seat becomes vacant, it can be used immediately. According to Rakesh Tripathi, former Chief Operating Manager of North Eastern Railway, this step is a major improvement towards better seat management and optimal utilization.

3 to 5 Percent of Passengers Do Not Board

According to statistics, 3 to 5 percent of passengers do not turn up compared to the total number of seats on almost every train. This means they either cancel their journey or try to board from another station. The Railways has made it clear that passengers should board only from the station they have selected as their boarding station. Please note that the facility to change the boarding station is available only 24 hours before the chart preparation. After this, neither boarding nor boarding from another station will be permitted.
