You can change the travel time of the train ticket without canceling it. To change the date of your journey on a confirmed ticket, you have to surrender your ticket at the reservation counter about 48 hours before the departure of the train.
Also you have to apply for a new date. Here you will also get the option to upgrade the class. After receiving the application, both the date and class of your journey will be changed.
No charge will be taken for changing the date. However, if you change the class, then the money is charged on the basis of the fare of that class.
