Today we will tell you that if your hands do not do the above, but if an accident happens then what steps you should take.

What is Third Party Insurance ?
Third party insurance is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act. Third party insurance is required when something unintentionally happens because of you on the road. It eases your financial burden. In case of third party claims, a special court, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), has been set up to decide the party which declares the adjudication related to the claims.

Third party claim registration
Third party claims are the most common type of claims in the case of motor insurance. Disposal of Third Party Insurance involves a legal process with MACT. Hence there is a need to inform the police and register an FIR. If you are the owner of the vehicle, you should immediately inform your insurance company about the loss. In addition to doing so, there are certain documents required in case of third party claims such as:

  • Claim form signed by the insured
  • Copy of driving license, copy of policy and FIR
  • RC copy of vehicle
  • Stamp required if in case of original document of company registered vehicle
  • Permit and fitness in case of commercial vehicle, where applicable
  • Follow these steps for faster processing of third party claims
  • Before removing the vehicle from the accident site, immediately take a photograph of the accident and the damage it caused. The claim form should describe the incident in detail and accurately.
  • Make sure the injured is taken to the nearest hospital. Inform the insurance company immediately if the hospital has to pay.

Time limit for registration of third party claim
It is important to file third party insurance claims at the earliest. There is no written rule for this, yet it is necessary to inform the insurance company within 24 to 48 hours of the accident.

Take these steps to avoid trouble

One of the major hurdles in speedy settlement of third party insurance claims is lack of awareness. Any person with a vehicle should be aware of some important things to avoid trouble. It is important to meet the right person at the right time. If your documents are correct, you can contact the insurance company directly. You must provide your complete and correct contact information.

It is worth noting that the middlemen or brokers become active as soon as the cases of third party insurance come to the fore. You should avoid these. These middlemen may offer you attractive compensation amount, but you should not blindly believe them. Instead, talk to your insurance company about it.

Even if your case is pending in court, it is better for you to keep in touch with your insurance company on a regular basis. Staying in touch regularly will keep you updated about the status of your claim. At times, the process of collection of claim amount from the court may get delayed due to lack of own participation. It is important to ensure timely recovery of money in your favor from the court.
