New Delhi. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) to 30 September. Earlier this date was 31st August. This change has been made under Section 3 of the Direct Tax Vivad Se Vishwas (VSV) Act. Due to technical shortcomings in the new portal of Income Tax Department, taxpayers were finding it difficult to file returns.

The CBDT said in a statement that due to problems being faced in the issuance and amendment of Form 3 as required under the Vivad Se Vishwas Act, it has been decided to extend the last date for payment of any additional amount to 30 September.

However, it is clarified that the last date for payment with no additional amount under the VSV Act has not changed and will remain the same as October 31.
