Jobs 2026: Significant and welcome news has emerged for young individuals aspiring to become government teachers. For candidates who have long been awaiting recruitment opportunities, the Gujarat government has announced a large-scale recruitment drive for primary teacher positions. Under this recruitment campaign, approximately 11,000 vacancies will be filled; this initiative will not only provide employment opportunities to unemployed youth but also address the shortage of teachers in the state’s government schools.
This recruitment drive is being conducted by the Gujarat Education Department through the District and Municipal Primary Education Committees. According to available information, out of the total 11,000 positions, approximately 5,000 vacancies have remained unfilled since 2025, while approval has been granted for 6,000 new positions for the year 2026. This recruitment is primarily intended for Gujarati-medium government schools, where teachers will be appointed to teach students in grades 1 through 5.
Who Can Apply?
Only those candidates who have qualified the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET-1) are eligible to apply for this recruitment process. Furthermore, another significant point is that students currently pursuing the final year of the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) are also eligible to apply. This decision will benefit thousands of such students who wish to apply for a job even before completing their studies and aim to seize the opportunity in a timely manner.
An Opportunity for Teachers Seeking Transfers
Alongside the ongoing recruitment drive, a significant facility has also been extended to currently serving teachers. Teachers desiring a transfer may submit their applications online between April 21 and April 23. This facility will be available to teachers currently serving under District and Municipal Primary Education Committees, thereby providing them with the opportunity to work at their preferred locations.
Application Process and Important Dates
To ensure that the recruitment process remains entirely transparent and streamlined, the application procedure has been conducted online. Interested candidates will be able to apply starting April 15, while the deadline for submitting applications has been set for April 24. Following the submission of their online applications, candidates will be required to submit their necessary documents at designated centers. Subsequently, the selection process will be conducted strictly on the basis of merit. Districts will be allotted to candidates based on their scores.
