The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, connecting Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, with the industrial hub of Kanpur, is soon set to open for traffic. The Lucknow Regional Office of the NHAI has finalized the toll rates for the route. According to Project Director Nakul Prakash Verma, these rates will come into effect as soon as vehicular movement commences on the expressway.
Travel to be 186% More Expensive Compared to the Highway
The most striking feature of this expressway is its toll rates. Currently, the one-way toll for a car on the Lucknow-Kanpur Highway (NH-27) stands at ₹95, whereas on the new expressway, it will be ₹275. This means you will have to pay a fee that is 186% higher compared to the old route.
Toll Rates for Various Vehicles
Cars, Jeeps, and SUVs: ₹275 for a one-way trip, and ₹415 for a return trip within 24 hours.
Light Commercial Vehicles: ₹445 for a one-way trip, and ₹670 for a return trip.
Buses and Trucks: ₹935 for a one-way trip, and ₹1405 for a return trip.
Heavy Vehicles (HCM): ₹1020 for a one-way trip, and ₹1530 for a return trip.
Significant Time Savings
Although the toll rates may be high, this expressway will save your precious time. Via the current highway, the distance between Lucknow and Kanpur is 94 kilometers—a journey that takes 2.5 to 3 hours to complete due to heavy traffic. In contrast, this new 6-lane expressway is only 63 kilometers long. With a designated maximum speed limit of 120 km/h, this journey can be completed in just 30 to 45 minutes.
Increased Burden on the Pocket, Yet Relief Provided
Traveling on the expressway will offer significant relief to those who commute daily between these two cities for work. However, the toll rates have certainly heightened financial concerns. Experts suggest that for those who value their time, this expressway will prove to be a boon; yet, budget-conscious travelers may likely prioritize the old highway instead.
