Life Certificate: The month of November is crucial for pensioners, as it is mandatory to submit a Life Certificate every year. This provides proof that the pensioner is alive and should continue receiving their pension. If a pensioner fails to submit this certificate within the stipulated time, their pension is temporarily suspended.
Previously, pensioners had to queue at banks or post offices for this certificate, but now the government has introduced the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) facility, allowing the process to be completed within minutes from the comfort of their homes.
Why is a Life Certificate Important?
A Life Certificate proves that the pensioner is alive. It was introduced to prevent fraud and prevent pension payments from being issued in the name of a deceased person.
The government has set a deadline for submitting this certificate from November 1st to November 30th each year.
However, senior citizens above 80 years of age have been given relief and they can submit it between October 1 and November 30.
