Liquor shops will remain closed from Saturday this week to Monday next week. In such a situation, you will not get liquor to drink. The liquor shops and bars of the city will remain closed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Before the fifth phase of voting, the administration in Mumbai city has announced a dry day from 18 to 20 May.

When will the shops remain closed?

According to the report, liquor shops and bars will remain closed in Mumbai city from 5 pm on May 18. After this, they will remain closed throughout the day on 19th May and will open only after 5 pm on 20th May. On the day of voting, all liquor shops and bars will remain closed for the whole day. Apart from this, dry day will be observed again in Mumbai during the counting of votes on June 5.

Holi, Diwali, Gandhi Jayanti, 15 August and 26 January are officially dry days in the entire country including Maharashtra. Liquor is neither served nor sold anywhere on this day.

How many beers do people gulp down?

In comparison to the year 2022, about 80 lakh bulk liters more beer has been sold in the Thane region in the first six months of the year 2023. Thane region includes Mumbai city, suburbs, Thane, Palghar and Raigad complex. According to the Excise Department, 904.65 lakh bulk liters of beer was sold in Thane region during the year 2022 (April to October). During the year 2023 (April to October), 988.32 lakh bulk liters of beer was sold.

Earnings increased by Rs 138 crore

Due to increase in sale of liquor in Thane region including Mumbai, the government’s income has also increased by Rs 138.38 crore. While the government got a revenue of Rs 1719.16 crore from the sale of liquor and beer in the six months of last year, the government’s earnings increased to Rs 1857.54 crore in the first six months of the year 2023 itself.
