PM Vishwakarma Yojana: Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated every year on the date of the Sun’s transit into Virgo. This festival is celebrated with great pomp in many states across the country, including Bihar, Bengal, and Jharkhand. Lord Vishwakarma is worshipped on this auspicious occasion. This year, it is being celebrated today (September 17, 2025). This day is very special for all the country’s craftsmen and creators. On this day in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, which continues to this day. In the last two years, approximately 3 million artisans and craftsmen have registered under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. Skill verification of approximately 2.6 million people has been completed, and 86% of them, or 22.67 lakh, have completed basic training.
You can also join this scheme and benefit from it, but you must be eligible. The government has included 18 trades in this scheme. Under the Vishwakarma scheme, those with traditional skills such as goldsmiths, blacksmiths, barbers, and tanners will benefit. Those looking to start their own business will receive loans up to ₹3 lakh under this government scheme, without any guarantee.
Artisans receive these benefits
Launched to improve the lives of artisans and craftsmen, this scheme is promoting businesses in both urban and rural areas. To ensure artisans’ recognition as Vishwakarma, the scheme provides artisans with skill training, modern tools, collateral-free credit, incentives for digital transactions, brand promotion, and market linkages. This helps artisans increase their productivity, quality, and turnover.
Training will be provided along with the money.
This scheme provides training by master trainers to further enhance skills in 18 designated trades. Furthermore, this includes a stipend of ₹500 per day. Beneficiaries will receive a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, skill upgrades related to basic and advanced training, a toolkit incentive of ₹15,000, and incentives for digital transactions.
Loans are available in two stages.
If a skilled individual is unable to start a business due to lack of funds, they can apply for a loan under this scheme. Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive a loan of up to three lakh rupees. In the first stage, a loan of one lakh rupees is available to start the business, and in the second stage, a loan of up to two lakh rupees is available to expand it. This loan is provided at an interest rate of only five percent. To register for the scheme, Common Service Center (CSC) agents register artisans on the portal using their Aadhaar-biometric credentials.
