LPG booking rules change: There has been a major change in the rules for booking LPG gas cylinders. Now, new cylinders can be booked only after a 45-day gap for Ujjwala (PMUY) beneficiaries and a 25-35-day gap for general consumers. Bookings made before this time will be blocked.
LPG booking rules change: There is important news for domestic gas (LPG) consumers. Gas companies have made important changes in the rules for booking LPG cylinders. In order to prevent black marketing of domestic gas and to make the distribution system transparent, the gap between booking two cylinders has now been increased. Under the new rules, the central government has increased the mandatory time limit, i.e., the gap between the delivery of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder and the next refill booking, from 25 days to 35 days. Distributors informed about this new rule on Tuesday.
Urban households will be directly impacted
This rule will particularly affect urban households with double-cylinder connections (the ability to keep two cylinders in the home for uninterrupted gas supply). These consumers will now have to wait 35 days from the previous delivery date to book their next refill for a 14.2 kg gas cylinder.
New deadlines set for different categories
Gas companies have set new refill booking deadlines based on different customer categories.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries: Consumers with connections under the Ujjwala Yojana will now have to wait 45 days to book their next refill.
Non-PMUY consumers: Single bottle connections (SBC), meaning consumers with only one cylinder, will now be able to book a new cylinder only 25 days after the previous delivery.
Double Bottle Connection (DBC): For those with a two-cylinder connection, this interval is set at 35 days.
Rules for Small Cylinders (5 kg and 10 kg)
In addition to the regular 14.2 kg cylinders, booking intervals are also set for smaller cylinders.
5 kg cylinder: 9 to 16 days gap.
10 kg cylinder: 18 to 32 days gap.
The most important condition for consumers
The most important thing about this new rule is that the eligibility for booking your next cylinder will be calculated from the ‘last delivery date’, not the previous booking date.
If a consumer attempts to book a cylinder before the deadline, the system will block that ‘early booking’ and the booking will not be accepted.
Helpline Number Released
If consumers face any problems with this new rule or need more information, they can contact the official toll-free helpline number 1800-2333-555.
This is the second such change since the Iran war began. Earlier this month, the government increased the waiting period for domestic LPG cylinder refill bookings in urban areas from 21 days to 25 days. Officials stated that these new deadlines are intended to control consumption patterns and streamline LPG distribution.
Commercial LPG Crisis Deepens
In addition to domestic gas, the pressure on the supply of commercial (19 kg) LPG cylinders is even greater. However, on Saturday, the central government approved an additional 20% increase in the allocation of commercial LPG to states and union territories, bringing the total allocation to 50%. Distributors say that despite this government decision, it may take at least two to three more days for the impact or relief to be felt on the ground.
Ground Reality: Small Businesses and Common People Distressed
Due to these restrictions and shortages on commercial LPG, many small restaurants and dhabas are struggling to keep their businesses running. Meanwhile, the gas shortage has forced some households to resort to firewood for cooking.
