The Ministry of Education has launched new journalism courses. These short-term courses are available for free. You just need to register by visiting the official website. The step-by-step process is described below.
The Swayam portal is operated by the Ministry of Education. It is a platform for free online education, where various institutions offer courses in various subjects. Two new journalism-related courses have been launched on this portal, offered by INI and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).
These courses can be joined by visiting the official website http://swayam.gov.in. The special thing is that there is no fee for joining these courses. They can be completed in 4 to 8 weeks. Online applications can be made until February 2026. All that is required is registration.

How to join the course?
- First, visit the official website.
- Click on the Sign In/Register option on the home page.
- Create a profile by entering the required information.
- Next, go to the course catalog and search for the course. Then click on it.
- Enter the required information and login. Only then will you be able to join the course.
Free Course at IIM Bangalore
The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore is offering a course called “Journalism in the Digital Era.” Several candidates have already enrolled. The course will be taught by Dr. Shyamali Banerjee, a professor at Jain (Deemed-to-be) University, Bangalore. It is scheduled to begin on January 12th. However, the enrollment process has already begun. The course will conclude on April 30, 2026. Students will also be given the opportunity to earn a certificate. An exam will be conducted for this purpose. An exam registration fee of ₹750 may be required. However, there is no fee for joining or studying the course.

INI Free Course
INI is offering a course called “Broadcast Journalism.” It will be taught by Dr. Bala Lakhandar, a professor at Banaras Hindu University. This course can be completed in just four weeks. UG and PG students are eligible. It is scheduled to begin on February 16, 2026, and conclude on April 30, 2026. After completing the course, if a candidate wishes to receive a certificate, they will need to appear for an exam. The registration fee is ₹750. However, for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates, the fee is ₹500.
