Monsoon knock in Mumbai a day before, rain, waterlogging at places amidst the possibility of high tide

Monsoon knocked in Mumbai a day earlier on Wednesday. Heavy rains have been lashing the country’s financial capital and suburbs since morning. High tide of more than four meters is expected in the Arabian Sea around noon.



The southwest monsoon knocked in Mumbai a day earlier on Wednesday. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has given this information. Heavy rains have been lashing the country’s financial capital and suburbs since morning. Waterlogging has also been reported in some areas. Local train services have also been affected due to this. At the same time, the routes of some of the best buses have been diverted. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that high tide of more than four meters is likely in the Arabian Sea around noon. In such a situation, if the rain continues, then the problems of the people of Mumbai may increase.

It has been raining in the city since Tuesday night. Dr. Jayant Sarkar, head of IMD Mumbai office said that today monsoon has arrived in Mumbai. Several parts of the city and suburbs received heavy rain and thundershowers in the morning. According to the IMD, Colaba received 77.4 mm of rain, while Santacruz received 59.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Earlier on Monday, the IMD had issued a warning of heavy rain during four days from June 9 to 12 in all districts of Konkan including Mumbai metropolitan areas.

High tide likely

According to the BMC, the island city, eastern suburbs and western suburbs recorded 48.49 mm, 66.99 mm and 48.99 mm of rain respectively in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday. A BMC official said high tide of 4.16 meters is likely around noon. The IMD has predicted cloudy sky with moderate rain and thundershowers in the city. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places. The IMD had confirmed the arrival of Southwest Monsoon in Maharashtra on Saturday.

Waterlogging on roads and railway tracks

After heavy rains in Mumbai, roads have been waterlogged at many places. There has been traffic jam in different parts of the city. The railway track between Sion railway station and GTB Nagar railway station has been flooded. Mumbai local train services between Kurla and CSMT have been suspended as a precautionary measure. Services will resume as soon as the water recedes. Central Railway CPRO has informed that due to heavy rain and waterlogging near Chunabhatti railway station, train services on Harbor line between CSMT-Vashi have been suspended from 10.20 am. Due to waterlogging in Sion-Kurla section, services on main line from CSMT-Thane have been suspended from 10.20 am.
