Bahubali MLA Mukhtar Ansari was presented in Mohali court on Wednesday. During this, copies of the chargesheet presented in the case registered in Mohali were given to Ansari. The next hearing of the case will be on April 12. The Bahubali MLA was brought to court on a wheel chair. The MLA, brought to court amidst tight security, looked insensitive. After hearing here, he has been sent back to Ropar Jail.

The Supreme Court ruled on March 26 on the trial of UP Bahubali leader Mukhtar Ansari and his custody transfer petition. The court had said that Ansari would have to shift to Uttar Pradesh jail within two weeks. The court was not satisfied with the pleas of the Punjab government.

Earlier, the Punjab government had refused to hand over MLA and mafia don Mukhtar Ansari to the Uttar Pradesh government. The UP government needs Ansari’s custody for 14 criminal cases. Since January 2019, Ansari has been in a jail in Punjab, where he was named in an extortion case. The UP government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, saying that due to Ansari’s absence, the trials in UP are not being heard.

On the petition of the UP government, the Punjab government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, refusing to give Ansari custody of the UP government. The reason was given by the Punjab government to Ansari’s health. Hulfamme, filed through the jail superintendent, said Ansari was reportedly suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, back pain and skin allergies.

Seeking to dismiss the writ petition of the UP government, the Punjab-government had said that it was acting as per the opinion of the doctors. There was no pre-conceived conspiracy to keep Ansari away from UP. The affidavit stated that the writ petition of UP is not considered because UP cannot claim violation of his fundamental right to keep Ansari in custody in Punjab. The UP government’s petition had said that serious cases against Ansari are pending in the state, but despite this Ansari has been in a jail in Punjab for two years for a petty crime. The state government said that the court issued a production warrant to Ansari several times, but the jail authority was trying to send Ansari to UP citing health.
