Former CEO of Bark India, Partho Dasgupta, in a written statement to the Mumbai Police, claimed that he received $ 12,000 from Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV. He also received a total of Rs 40 lakhs over the course of three years, for which he had to manipulate the ratings in favor of the Republic. This information about tampering in TRP came from the supplementary charge sheet filed by the police in the TRP scam case.
The 3600-page supplementary charge sheet was filed by the Mumbai Police on January 11, including a BARC forensic audit report. Also included is a WhatsApp chat between Dasgupta and Goswami. Also included are statements from 59 people, including former BARC employees and cable operators.
The audit report talks about alleged TRP manipulation and fixing of ratings by top BARC officials for several news channels, Republic TV, Times Now and Aaj Tak. A supplementary charge sheet was filed against Partho Das Gupta, Romil Ramgarhia, Vikas Khanchandani. The charge sheet was first filed against 12 people in November. According to the second charge sheet, Dasgupta’s statement was recorded by the Crime Intelligence Unit on 9 December.
According to Dasgupta’s statement, “I have known Arnab Goswami since 2004. We used to work together in Times Now. I joined BARC as CEO in 2013 and Arnab Goswami launched Republic TV in 2017. Prior to launching Republic, he had talked to me many times about the plan and also asked for help with the ratings. The statement said, “I used to work with my team and manipulate the TRP. So that Republic TV could get the number one rating. This continued from about the year 2017 to 19. In 2017 Arnab Goswami gave me about $ 6000 in cash. After this, in 2019, he gave me the same amount. In 2017 also Goswami met me and gave me 20 lakh rupees in cash. In 2018 and 2019, he again gave me 20 lakh rupees. ”
