New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989 for “Electronic Surveillance and Enforcement of Road Safety” and use of electronic enforcement tools for issue of challans to state agencies. instructed to do.

The new rules specify detailed provisions for the deployment of electronic enforcement devices, including speed cameras, closed-circuit television cameras, speed guns, body wearable cameras, dashboard cameras, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), weigh in machines (WIMs). According to the newly notified rules, challans can be issued for not driving within the prescribed speed limit, stopping or parking the vehicle at unauthorized places, drivers not taking safety measures and not wearing protective headgear or helmet for rear riders. .

In order to issue challans, state agencies will have to provide photographic evidence highlighting the date, time and location of the crime and vehicle license plates, measurements from electronic enforcement equipment, and the crime.
