New Fastag Rules: The rules related to Fastag are going to change in the next few days, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has recently informed that from April 1, 2025, FasTag only system is being implemented in all toll plazas of Mumbai. The main objective behind this move is to streamline toll payments and reduce traffic congestion at toll booths.
The change in the digital toll payment system is expected to speed up the toll transaction process. Note that those who pass through the toll plaza without Fastag will have to pay double the toll amount. Double toll can be paid through cash, credit/debit card or UPI.
These people will get exemption
According to media reports, this rule does not apply to school buses, light motor vehicles and state transport buses. All these vehicles have been exempted from Fastag at five major places entering Mumbai, which include toll plazas of Mulund West, Mulund East, Airoli, Dahisar and Vashi. Note that the FASTag system will be strictly enforced on major highways like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Old Mumbai-Pune Highway and Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway.

Fastag can be purchased through Paytm, Amazon, or any banking app or website. After buying Fastag, you will be able to easily recharge your Fastag through any payment app including PhonePe, Google Pay, Amazon Pay.
Double toll will be charged in this case also
Before using Fastag, you should also know that if your Fastag is blacklisted for any reason and even if you recharge the Fastag, it takes some time for the status to update in your Fastag.
Even if the status is not updated, payment is not deducted from Fastag and double toll may have to be paid, so if your Fastag is blacklisted, recharge the Fastag before leaving the house so that the status will be updated by the time you reach the toll and you avoid paying double toll.
