Good News: Purnia Airport has recorded 54,000 passenger traffic in just three months. Passenger numbers are growing rapidly due to increased flights, new routes, and constantly improving facilities.
New Flight Service: Purnia Airport has handled 54,000 passengers in just three months. On this occasion, Purnia Airport Director DK Gupta, along with his officials, celebrated by cutting a cake. DK Gupta told the media that the Airports Authority of India is pleased to announce that more than 50,000 passengers have been served since the airport began operations.
What the Director Said
DK Gupta stated that the terminal building was inaugurated on September 15, 2025. It has seen tremendous growth due to strong regional demand for air travel. Passenger traffic has increased from 2,718 in September to over 32,000 in November, marking a significant leap in air connectivity for the Seemanchal region of Bihar.
Initially designed with a capacity of 300 passengers, the interim terminal building began operations with flights to Ahmedabad and Kolkata operated by Star Air and IndiGo.
With rapidly increasing demand, the service was upgraded to a daily operation and new routes to New Delhi and Hyderabad were introduced, taking the total flight operations to ten flights per day. He said that Purnia Airport is experiencing steady growth and partner airlines are actively considering demand for connectivity to more destinations.
Major Airport Expansion Underway
To meet growing demand, the airport is undergoing a major expansion. A dedicated apron is being constructed, with five aircraft parking bays (four for Airbuses and one for ATRs). This is expected to be expanded to 12 bays (10 Airbuses and two ATRs). Additionally, a new 30,000-square-meter terminal building with a 3,000-passenger handling capacity is being constructed adjacent to the existing interim terminal. This new facility will feature passenger boarding bridges and the latest amenities, meeting the standards of major airports across the country.
Different Routes
Airport Director DK Gupta stated that airlines are expected to operate flights to Mumbai, Guwahati, and Bengaluru in the coming new year. “All preparations are complete,” he said. Social activist Pankaj Nayak, who traveled as the first passenger from Purnia Airport, was also present on the occasion. Officials from IndiGo and Star Air also attended.
The following are the traffic figures so far:
September: 2,718

The total passenger traffic is 54,037.
