ITR Forms: The Income Tax Department has made some changes to the new ITR forms. The most significant change in these forms is the address requirement. Now, the option to enter a second address is also available.
New guidelines for income tax filers: Several changes have been made to the new income tax forms released last week. These changes are necessary for anyone planning to file their tax return (ITR) for assessment year (AY) 2026-27 by July 31, 2026. These forms are for income from the financial year (FY) 2025-26, and require you to follow the old income tax rules.
According to the Economic Times, the biggest change in all the newly notified forms (ITR 1 to 7) is regarding the address. A new column has been added to Part A of the form, which requires the taxpayer’s personal information such as name, PAN, Aadhaar number, and contact information.
What’s new?
According to Taxmann Research, the previous form only required one address, two mobile numbers, and two email IDs.
The new form for Assessment Year 2026-27 now includes the option to provide a secondary address in addition to the primary address.
The mobile number and email ID columns are now recognized as primary and secondary contact information.
Will representatives receive relief?
An individual filing a tax return on behalf of another person is called a “representative.” The previous form required numerous details, including the representative’s name, capacity, address, and PAN/Aadhaar details. The new form simplifies this process. Representatives will now need to provide only three pieces of information: the representative’s name, email address, and mobile number.
This feature has been removed
The dual reporting requirement has been removed in the new ITR form. This was done because the rate change was only for the previous year 2024-25. Since there were no changes in the income tax slabs during the previous year related to AY 2026-27, it is no longer necessary to provide separate details of capital gains based on the date of transfer. This has significantly simplified the reporting structure.
