New IT Rules: Facebook, Google and Instagram delete controversial post from social media, praises Ravi Shankar Prasad

Under the new IT rules, a large digital platform with over five million users is required to publish compliance reports from time to time every month.




New Delhi: Information Technology (IT Minister) Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday lauded major internet media platforms like Google, Facebook and Instagram. This internet media platform has released its first compliance report on voluntary removal of controversial post as per the new IT rules. The Union Minister termed the internet media platform as a big step towards transparency.

Under the new IT rules, a large digital platform with more than five million users is required to publish a compliance report from time to time every month, detailing the complaints received and the action taken on them.

A big step towards transparency: Prasad

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted that it was good to see important social media platforms like Google, Facebook and Instagram complying with the new IT rules. The first compliance report on voluntary removal of a controversial post published by it in accordance with IT rules is a big step towards transparency.

Facebook removed more than 30 million disputed content

Facebook said Friday it has processed more than 30 million disputed content in 10 infringement categories in the country between May 15 and June 15. Facebook has compulsorily released its first monthly compliance report through IT rules, which has come up against this information. Internet giant Facebook has reportedly cracked down on spam (2.5 million), violent and graphic content (2.5 million), adult nudity and sexual activity (1.8 million) and vulgar language (311,000).

Other categories under which Facebook has handled content include bullying and harassment (118,000), suicide and self-injury (589,000), dangerous organization and person. In addition, Facebook has cracked down on posts such as terrorist propaganda (106,000) and dangerous organization and person-organized hate, which number close to 75,000.
