There’s significant news of relief and development for the residents of Old Gurugram. The long-awaited metro extension is now finally underway. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has identified land for nine metro stations to be built under the second phase of the Old Gurugram Metro route.
New Metro Station: There is big news of relief and development for the people of Old Gurugram. The picture of the old city, which was struggling with traffic jams, long commutes and limited connectivity, is now about to change. A major step has been taken regarding the second phase of the Old Gurugram Metro route. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has selected land for the nine metro stations to be built under the second phase. Along with this, land related information has been sought from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP) for the arrangements of entry and exit at each station.
The Metro Project will be completed in three phases.
The Old Gurugram Metro Project is being developed in three phases. The first phase will construct the metro line and stations from the Millennium City Centre Metro Station to Sector 9. The tender for this phase has already been awarded, and work is progressing rapidly. The second phase will extend the metro line from Sector 9 to DLF Cyber City, while the third phase will construct a metro depot in Sector 33.
These will be the nine stations in the second phase.
The areas to be connected by the metro in the second phase include Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, and Sector 23A. The construction agency has deployed three piling machines, and work is progressing rapidly between Millennium City Centre and Bakhtawar Chowk.
Stations to be built in the middle of the road, discussions on the ground
According to GMRL officials, most metro stations will be built in the middle of the road, with entry and exit gates located on the surrounding land. In some places, this land is green space, while in others, it is privately owned. If the land belongs to the HSVP, it will be provided free of charge, while for private land, a committee headed by the District Deputy Commissioner will decide on the purchase.
The metro network will also connect to the railway station.
Plans are also underway to connect the Old Gurugram Metro from Sector 5 to the Gurugram Railway Station. Two new stations are proposed along this approximately two-kilometer route, providing improved connectivity between the metro and the railway.
Metro Depot worth ₹409 crore
An estimate of approximately ₹409 crore has been prepared for the metro depot to be built in Sector 33. Tenders for this depot, which will be built on approximately 45 acres, will be issued soon.
Obstacles will also be removed.
Measurements of legal and illegal constructions obstructing the metro construction from Hero Honda Chowk to Sector 101 are being conducted. Following this, the process of removing obstacles under the land acquisition policy will begin.
