Indian Railways is the fourth largest rail network in the world. In which millions of people travel daily. 12 lakh employees work to manage it, which is the highest in the railway system of any country, and it connects almost every corner of the country with each other. That is why it is also called the lifeline of the country.

We all travel in this train from time to time according to our need and hobby. Along with this, we also take advantage of the facilities provided by the railways during the journey. Charges for some of these facilities have to be paid directly and for some indirectly.

One such facility is the bed roll available in the coaches of AC classes (Third AC, Second AC, First AC) in the train, which includes – blanket, sheet, pillow and towel.

Do you know this rule of railways?

This bedroll is provided to the passengers on their seats by IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), which is booked along with the booking of the ticket, and its charges are also attached with the ticket.

This bedroll has to be returned to the railways after the journey is over. This is the moral responsibility of every passenger. Carrying them with you is a punishable offense. Because all these are the property of the railways.

But do you know what can happen to you if you are caught carrying a blanket, bedsheet, pillow or towel from the train? Know what the country’s law says about this.

Punishment for stealing blanket, bedsheet, pillow or towel

If a passenger is caught red-handed carrying a railway blanket, bedsheet, pillow or towel from the train, he will have to pay a fine of ₹ 1000. And if he refuses or expresses inability to pay 1 thousand rupees as a fine, then there is also a provision of 1 year imprisonment in the law. So never do this even by mistake.

Let us tell you, in Indian Railways, blankets, bedsheets, pillows etc. are considered the property of the railways. If you steal it, you can face action under the Railway Property Act, 1966. If you are caught for the first time, you can be imprisoned for up to one year or fined up to Rs 1000. In serious cases, if you repeat this crime more than once, you can be imprisoned for up to 5 years and fined.

Railway rules say that if a passenger is caught with stolen goods, Railway Police (GRP) or Railway Protection Force (RPF) can take action against him. Therefore, passengers are advised to leave the belongings found during the journey on their seats or return them to the attendant.
