New Telecom Rules: Department of telecom issues order related to mobile, now you will get new SIM card sitting at home

New telecom reforms: The government has eased some rules related to mobile. Customers can now get a new SIM card sitting at home.

New telecom reforms: Now it will be easier for the customers to get a new mobile connection. Customers can now apply for a new mobile connection online and the SIM card will be delivered to their homes. For this, customers can verify themselves with Aadhaar or any other document stored in DigiLocker.




The Department of Telecom issued an order for this on Tuesday. DoT’s move is part of the telecom reforms approved by the cabinet on September 15.

According to the new rules, users will have to pay Re 1 for the process of authentication through UIDAI’s Aadhaar based e-KYC service for customers to get a new mobile connection.

The government has amended the law

The government had already amended the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 in July 2019 to reintroduce the Aadhaar-based e-KYC process for issuance of new mobile connections.

The government has issued an order for a new One Time Password (OTP) based process to convert prepaid to postpaid.

Get sim card sitting at home

DoT has said in its order that the mobile connection will be given to the customers through an app/portal based process, in which customers can apply for mobile connection sitting at home. Customers can get the SIM at their doorstep through UIDAI based verification.




Currently, to get a new mobile connection or to convert a mobile connection from prepaid to postpaid, customers have to go through the KYC process. For this, customers have to go to the shop with their identity and address verification documents.

The Telecom Department said in a statement that in the era of Corona, there is a need to promote contactless service for the convenience of customers and for ease of doing business.
