YouTube has taken a big decision which is a challenge for old iPhone and iPad users. Now YouTube apps will not support these devices. See which devices are included in the list:

YouTube has released a new update (version 20.22.1) of its iOS app, after which this app will stop working on many older iPhone and iPad models. This change came into effect on June 3, 2025 and now at least iOS or iPadOS 16.0 will be required to run the YouTube app. This update has put those users in trouble who are using older devices like iPhone 7, iPhone 6, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPad mini 4, and iPad Air 2.

Which devices will not be supported by Youtube

After this new update of YouTube, devices with versions older than iOS 16.0 will no longer be supported. This means that:

– iPhone 6

– iPhone 7

– iPhone SE (1st generation)

Models like these, which can only be updated to iOS 15, will no longer be able to use the YouTube app. Apart from this, in iPad models:

– iPad mini 4

– iPad Air 2

Because these devices also do not support iOS 16. This decision is a big blow to those users who were still using these old devices.

What will be the impact on users?

This decision of YouTube will affect millions of users who use older iPhone and iPad models. The YouTube app will no longer work on these devices, which means that users will not be able to stream videos, access playlists, or use their accounts. However, as an alternative, users can visit the YouTube website through their device’s web browser (such as Safari), but it will not be as convenient as the app.

Why did YouTube take this decision?

YouTube says that this update was necessary to support new features and better performance. Supporting older operating systems becomes difficult for developers, as they cannot make new features and security updates compatible with older systems.
