The Government has stated that sub-rule (2) of the Food Security (State Government Assistance Rules) 2015 to encourage the States to operate the EPoS devices properly and to promote savings with an additional profit of Rs.17.00 per quintal. The government has amended Rule-7 with effect from June 18, 2021, so that savings can also be achieved from the additional profit given by any state and union territory towards cost. The official statement said that any savings on the part of any State or Union Territory from the additional margin provided for the cost of purchase, operation and maintenance of Point of Sale devices, shall be credited to the purchase, operation and maintenance of electronic weighing scales. Can be used for integration of both with maintenance. The government said that this amendment has been made as an attempt to take forward the reform process envisaged under Section 12 of the Act by improving the transparency of operation of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) under NFSA.
