NTPC will sell drinking water prepared from seawater

Public sector NTPC has invited Letters of Interest (EOI) in its joint venture project NTECL Vallur in Tamil Nadu to sell ‘Desalinated Water’ made potable by removing salt from sea water. NTECL, NTPC and Tamil Nadu Production and Distribution Company Ltd. (TanZedco) has a joint venture. Both share 50:50 percent in it.


The Vallur thermal power house has a capacity of 1500 MW (three units of 500–500 MW). It is the only power plant of NTECL, located in Vallur, Tamil Nadu. As per the letter of interest document, “NTPC is inviting letter of interest from companies / their group / affiliate / representative units for sale of desalinated mineral water produced at NTECL Vallur plant”. According to the document, the last date for submission of interest papers is 15 May 2021.
