One Vehicle One Fastag rule implemented, now this facility will be available

One Vehicle One FASTag: The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ rule of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has come into effect across the country from Monday.

One Vehicle One FASTag: The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ rule of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has come into effect across the country from Monday. Its objective is to discourage the use of one FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with one vehicle. A senior official said that now more than one Fastag cannot be installed on one vehicle. He said that people who have multiple Fastags for one vehicle will not be able to use them from April 1.

Deadline extended till 31st March

Public sector unit NHAI had extended the deadline for implementing the ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ scheme till March 31 in view of the problems faced by vehicle owners using Paytm Fastag. Fastag is an electronic system of toll collection in India and it is operated by NHAI.

Why was One Vehicle One Fastag implemented?

To increase the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate smooth movement at toll plazas, NHAI has started ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ initiative. Through this, the authority wants to ban the use of the same Fastag for multiple vehicles and also ban linking multiple Fastags to a particular vehicle.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had advised customers and businessmen of Paytm’s subsidiary Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) to transfer their accounts to other banks by March 15.

8 crore Fastag users in the country

Fastag reaches about 98 percent of vehicles and has more than eight crore users. Fastag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to make toll payment directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to the toll owner.
