It is very important to have PAN card to file ITR. Therefore, there is no specific age prescribed by the Income Tax Department for obtaining PAN card.

You want to open a bank account in the name of your child.

Who can apply?

The application for making a PAN card of a minor is made on behalf of his parents or whoever is the legal guardian. It is also the responsibility of the guardian to file ITR on behalf of the child.

Since a PAN card issued in the name of a minor does not bear his photograph and signature, it cannot be used as identity proof. When the minor turns 18, he or she has to apply for PAN card update.

PAN Application Process- How to Apply?

Step 1: Visit the official website of NSDL

Step 2: Read the instructions carefully to fill Form 49A.

Step 3: Upload other required documents including age certificate of the minor and photo of the parents. Upload signatures of parents only.

Step 4: Proceed with payment of Rs 107. Click on submit button. An acknowledgment number will be provided, which one can use to track the status of the application.

PAN card will reach you within 15 days of successful verification.

Documents required to apply for Minor PAN Card

  • Proof of Date of Birth (DOB) of Minor
  • Proof of address and identity of the minor’s parents will be required.
  • Proof of address and identity of the applicant is also required.
  • Aadhar card, ration card, guardian of the minor as identity proof.
  • You can submit any one document like passport, driving license.
  • Aadhar Card, Post Office Passbook, Property Registration for Address Proof
  • A copy of the document or original residence certificate must be submitted.
