PMAY Report Card: The Union Finance Ministry has today made a tweet regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). It has been informed that the deadline of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) i.e. PMAY (U) is being extended. It has been extended till December 31, 2024 and for the houses which have been sanctioned or approved, the last date has been fixed as December, the last month of this year.

The Finance Ministry’s tweet read that with the sanction of more than 118 lakh houses, PMAY (U) facilitates access to affordable rental housing to urban migrants/poor in industrial areas as well as in the non-formal urban economy. . Not only this, they are also located at a respectable place near their workplace.

Just yesterday, thousands of beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana were given houses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday dedicated to the nation more than 90,000 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban in Maharashtra. 15,000 houses of Rainagar Housing Society in Solapur were dedicated to the country. Their beneficiaries include thousands of handloom workers, vendors, power loom workers, rag pickers, beedi workers, drivers and other categories of citizens.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “Today the largest society under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been inaugurated.” He also recalled his childhood desire to live in such houses. More than 90,000 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban in Maharashtra were dedicated to the nation yesterday i.e. on Friday.

According to the data given by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, so far 118.63 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Out of this, work on 113.53 lakh houses is in progress and 79.02 lakh houses have been completed so far. So far, an investment of Rs 8.11 lakh crore has come in this project, out of which approval for Rs 2 lakh crore has been received from the Center and Rs 1.55 lakh crore has also been released by the Central Government.

What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), a flagship mission of the Government of India, is being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). This scheme was launched on 25 June 2015. This mission seeks to bridge the urban housing shortage among EWS/LIG. Under this scheme, it was decided that by the year 2022, when the nation will complete 75 years of its independence, all eligible urban families will be included in the MIG category including slum dwellers by ensuring permanent houses.
