Public Holiday: District administrations in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli of Tamil Nadu have officially declared local holidays on Monday, July 7, and Tuesday, July 8, respectively, in observance of major temple festivals in the region. The respective District Collectors made the announcements through formal statements.

Thoothukudi District Collector Ilam Bhagwat announced that Monday, July 7, will be a local holiday for all schools and colleges in the district in celebration of the Thiruchendur Temple Kudamuzhakkai festival. However, the collector emphasised that the holiday will not apply to students, teachers, and officials involved in any government examinations scheduled for that day. To compensate for this holiday, Saturday, July 19, has been declared a working day, with a detailed announcement to follow.

Meanwhile, Tirunelveli District Collector Sukumar has declared a local holiday on Tuesday, July 8, for all schools, colleges, and state government offices, marking the Nellaiyappar Gandhimati Amman Temple Chariot Festival.

Key exceptions include the continuation of public government examinations, with no holiday granted to students, teachers, or institutions involved, and all scheduled exams on July 8 will proceed without any changes.

Since this holiday is not declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, it does not apply to banks. Government treasuries and subordinate offices will function with minimum staff to ensure critical services like government securities are maintained. To balance the declared leave, Saturday, July 19, will also serve as a compensatory working day in Tirunelveli.

These announcements reflect the district administrations’ efforts to accommodate cultural celebrations while ensuring essential services and exams continue uninterrupted.
