Railway Rules: We all must have travelled by train at some time or the other. But we should take special care of some things while travelling by train. If you violate some of the railway rules even by mistake while travelling in a train or at a railway station, you may get into trouble. If you do this, you will not only have to pay a fine, but may also be sent to jail. So, know these rules for your benefit today itself.

Do not carry explosive items

According to the rules of the railways, carrying explosives or inflammable items inside the train is strictly prohibited. In such a situation, if you are caught with items like firecrackers, kerosene oil, petrol, gas cylinders, then under section 164 of the Railway Act 1989, you can be fined Rs 1000 and jailed for up to 3 years.

Do not do these things at night at all

TTEs do not even check tickets at night to ensure that passengers do not get disturbed in their sleep during train journeys. In such a situation, the railways also expect passengers to take care of their fellow passengers’ sleep. If you are talking loudly or playing music inside the train at night and a fellow passenger complains about you, you may get into trouble.

Smoking will cost you dearly

You may get into a big problem if you are caught smoking or drinking alcohol inside the train or at the railway station. If the TTE catches you doing this, then you can be fined and also jailed for up to 3 years. In such a situation, the railways strictly instructs its passengers not to smoke or consume alcohol during train journeys.

Travelling without a ticket

Travelling by train without a ticket is a punishable offence. Still, such pictures keep coming out from trains, in which more people than the prescribed limit are seen travelling in the reserved coaches of trains. In such a situation, if you are caught travelling without a ticket during a night journey, the TTE can not only impose a fine on you but can also take you to jail.
