The decision has been made to increase the number of coaches in this train, making it the father of sleeper trains.
According to sources in the Railway Ministry, the Indian Railways is continuously striving to provide better facilities to the public. Major decisions are being taken to achieve this. Within 10 days of the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper, the Railways has decided to increase its capacity to ensure that more people can enjoy a comfortable journey.
What is the decision regarding coaches?
The Railways is expanding the number of coaches in the Sleeper Vande Bharat train. For the first time, the decision has been made to add 24 coaches to the Vande Bharat class trains. Currently, the Sleeper Vande Bharat train operates with 16 coaches. This represents a one-third increase in the number of coaches. In the future, the 24-coach Vande Bharat train will operate with 823 berths.
How many passengers will be able to travel?
The 16-coach Vande Bharat train has 823 berths in all classes. However, the 24-coach Vande Bharat train will have 1,224 berths. This represents a one-third increase in the number of berths. The next time you travel in the Sleeper Vande Bharat train, you can enjoy a longer train journey.
Where will the train be manufactured?
According to the Railways, the 24-coach train will be manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai under the Make in India initiative. The recently launched Sleeper Vande Bharat has an occupancy rate of more than 100%, hence the Railways has planned a train with higher capacity.
When will the first prototype be ready?
Indian Railways is designing a 24-coach train. The first prototype train is expected to be ready by the end of 2026. The train will consist of 17 AC 3-coach coaches, 5 AC 2-coach coaches, 1 AC First Class coach, and 1 AC pantry car.

The 24-coach Vande Bharat will feature comfortable berths, reading lights, mobile and laptop charging points, Wi-Fi information and entertainment systems, vacuum toilets, increased luggage space, a modern interior, and special toilets and ramps for disabled passengers.
