Uttarakhand Weather Update: The highest rainfall in 74 years has been recorded in Dehradun within 24 hours, due to which the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Bageshwar.
Rainfall Alert: After 74 years, the highest rainfall in 24 hours has been recorded in Dehradun. This is the third time this season that 175 mm of rain has been recorded in 24 hours. 177 mm of rain fell in Haripur. Earlier, the all-time record of the highest rainfall in 24 hours was recorded in 1951. Then 332.2 mm of rain was recorded. Kalsi received 72 mm of rain in one hour, Koti 39.5 mm and Jakholi 45.5 mm of rain.
Weather department alert
There is a possibility of heavy rain in Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Bageshwar districts on Saturday. For this, the weather department has issued a red alert. At the same time, heavy rain is also expected in some places in Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Pauri districts. A yellow alert has been issued for this. According to the weather department, light to moderate rain is likely in many places of hilly and plain districts on Saturday.
Waterlogging on Mall Road due to rain in Mussoorie
Due to rain, drains got clogged in Mussoorie. On Friday, the mood of the weather in Mussoorie changed since morning. After light rain in the morning, the sun shone around 12:00 noon. At 5:00 in the evening, the weather took a turn. Dark clouds covered the sky. Heavy rain started. Due to this, normal life was affected. Due to most of the drains getting clogged, dirty water started flowing on the roads. Due to this, drivers riding two-wheelers had to face trouble. On the other hand, the rain caused waterlogging at many places on Mall Road. Stones, gravel and debris came floating on the roads along with the water. Regarding this, shopkeeper Salim Ahmed told on Friday that dirty water started flowing on the road due to the drain getting choked due to rain.
The coming few days will be challenging for Uttarakhand
According to the IMD alert, the coming few days can be challenging in Uttarakhand. IMD has issued red, orange and green alerts. To minimize the damage due to excessive rainfall, the State Disaster Management Authority has instructed to make necessary preparations in advance.
Chaos seeing the form of Alaknanda
Due to heavy rains in the upper areas, the water level of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers remained above the danger mark. Due to this, water entered many residential buildings. There was an atmosphere of chaos among the people living on the river bank throughout the night. The lower premises of the ancient Hanuman temple got submerged. The sanctum sanctorum also got filled with water.
The problems of the people living on the river bank increased from Friday morning itself. Along with Belni, water entered many houses of Hanuman temple and Valmiki colony, due to which the goods were also damaged. The saints and sages living in Hanuman temple kept removing the goods from 2 o’clock in the night. Many local people also helped them. Local residents Surendra Rawat, Jitar Singh Jagwan said that the water suddenly increased from 3 o’clock late night, due to which water entered many residential houses. The first complex of the temple remained completely filled with water, which caused damage here. At the same time, the lower complex of the Nagar Palika was also submerged in water. The people living here had already removed their goods. The water level at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini remained much above the danger mark.
