Ramadan New Rules: Preparations for the holy month of Ramadan have begun in full swing in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has increased inspections of food and beverages in the Mecca and Jeddah regions. This is good news for Indians and other expatriates living there, as the government is now closely monitoring the quality of goods available in the market. The Saudi Supreme Court has also issued a special appeal to citizens regarding the moon sighting.
What’s happening in shops and warehouses ahead of Ramadan?
SFDA Chief Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jadhay has personally visited Jeddah and Mecca. He has made it clear that there will be no compromise on food safety. He is working closely with the municipalities and the Ministry of Commerce to ensure this.
Strict inspections are being conducted on food storage and transportation standards in warehouses.
It is being ensured that goods sold in the market are safe for consumption.
If any shop or factory does not comply with the rules, immediate legal action will be taken against it and it may even be closed.
It is now mandatory for workers to have health certificates and maintain cleanliness.
What are the guidelines for moon sighting and filing complaints?
The Saudi Supreme Court has urged the public to observe the Ramadan moon sighting on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The court has stated that anyone who sees the moon with the naked eye or through binoculars should report it to the nearest court. Depending on the moon’s sighting, Ramadan may begin on February 18 or 19.
The SFDA has also issued some important advice for the public’s convenience and health. Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water between Iftar and Sehri is recommended. It is also advised to avoid foods high in oil, salt, and sugar. If you notice any irregularities in food or beverages, you can file a complaint using the Tamaini app or toll-free number 19999.
