The Delhi Capitals team has announced its new captain on Tuesday. After Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2021 due to injury, the Delhi franchise has appointed Rishabh Pant as captain. The team’s head coach Ricky Ponting has also supported Pant and said that his recent performances against Australia and England will help him lead the team and it will boost his confidence.

Rishabh Pant has been appointed the new captain of the team in place of regular captain Shreyas Iyer, as Iyer will not be able to play this entire season due to injury. Ponting said, “This is a great opportunity for young Rishabh Pant, who has performed well recently against Australia and England. There is no doubt that this will boost morale while captaining him. Coaching group to work with him Curious and we are desperate for this season to begin. ”

Let me tell you, Rishabh Pant has recently confirmed his place as the wicket-keeper batsman in all parups for Team India. He played an important role in his home Test series against Australia and then India’s victory against England on home ground. In the Sydney Test match against Australia, he had scored an innings of 97 runs on the fifth day and played a key role in the draw, while the unbeaten 89 runs on the fourth and the fifth day of the final test gave India a historic Test victory.

On his new role from Delhi Capitals, Pant said, “It was always my dream to one day become captain of such a team in Delhi, where I grew up and where I started my IPL journey six years ago. Today my dream is fulfilled. I feel honored. This is a really proud moment and I am thankful to the team owners for this, because these people have considered me worthy of this role. Having been with the excellent coaching staff and many seniors, I am from Delhi Capitals. I’ll try to give my best. ”

The 14th season of IPL starts on 9 April. Delhi Capitals made it to the final of the IPL played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year. In such a situation, it will now be the responsibility of Pant to get the team a title win. Let me tell you that Iyer will have to undergo surgery to recover from his shoulder injury. They will have an operation on 8 April. After this, Iyer will take at least five months to recover completely.
