Two days holiday has been declared in many districts of UP but there has been a change in school timings in Prayagraj and Banaras. Now all schools from class 1 to 12 will open from 10 am and classes will run till 3 pm. In Lucknow, orders have been issued to open all schools from 9 am.

School Holidays 2025: There is good news for school students. Due to the cold wave and dense fog, all schools up to grade 8 have been declared closed on December 19-20 in Kasganj, Jaunpur, Rampur, and Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. Schools across all boards will also be closed for two days in Sambhal, Orai, Auraiya, Farrukhabad, Bareilly, and Kanpur. This order will apply to classes from nursery to 12th. The Basic Education Officer issued the order on the instructions of the District Magistrate. On December 19, all schools in Agra, including council, non-government-aided, recognized, CBSE, ICSE, and other board schools, will be closed for classes 1 to 12. In Etah, all schools from grades 1 to 8, along with Anganwadi centers, will be closed today, Friday.

Winter vacations have already been announced in these states.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s schedule, pre-primary classes will be closed until February 28, 2026, and schools will reopen on March 1. School holidays for classes 9 to 12 will begin on December 11, 2025, and continue until February 22, 2026. Schools in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed until December 14.

In Rajasthan, winter vacation will be from December 25, 2025, to January 5, 2026. This holiday will apply to all government and private schools. The holiday dates have been determined according to the Shivira Panchang 2025-26.

In Madhya Pradesh, winter vacation will be from December 31 to January 4. According to the School Education Department, government schools will have a Christmas holiday on December 25. Regular classes will resume after this, and then winter vacation will begin.

Winter vacation in Chhattisgarh schools may be announced from December 22nd to 27th. During this period, schools in the state will remain closed on December 21st and 28th as they are Sundays. In this way, students are expected to get the benefit of a week’s holiday.

The Punjab Education Department has announced winter vacation in all schools from December 24th to December 31st. All government-aided and private schools in the state will reopen on January 1st, 2026. These schools include all government, private, aided and recognized schools.

Due to air pollution, Delhi has announced a holiday for students up to grade 5. Classes from grades 6 to 11 will be conducted in a hybrid mode, i.e., online and offline. School classes are mandatory for grades 10 and 12 due to board exams. Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh are also likely to announce winter vacations soon. School holidays in these states typically begin in the last week of December or early January.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to close all government schools and educational institutions on December 27th, the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It is likely that winter vacations for PM Shri schools will begin from December 20th to 31st, 2025, and for council primary schools from December 31st, 2025.

Several holidays at the end of December

Schools across the country will be closed on December 21st and 28th, as Sundays are weekly holidays. Apart from this, schools will remain closed in many states including Meghalaya, Mizoram, Telangana due to Christmas festival between 24th to 26th December. There will be holiday on 26th December in Haryana due to Guru Udham Singh Jayanti and on 27th December in Uttar Pradesh due to Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.
