The notice issued by HPS Brar, Director of School Education, Chandigarh, said that in view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions and to protect children from being exposed to such extreme cold weather, all schools in Chandigarh, including those receiving government aid, And there will be no classes in physical mode for classes up to 8th class in recognized private schools till January 20. Schools can conduct online classes.

The order further states that for students of class 9 and above, schools will not open before 9.30 am and will close before 4 pm. The order further said, “Schools should keep in mind the cold weather of early morning and late evening and the time taken by children to travel to and from school while scheduling these classes.” Schools can regulate the time of their employees accordingly.

It is difficult for people to get relief from cold for the next 4-5 days. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of the city was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius on Friday, which was six degrees less than normal. The minimum temperature of the city was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius, which was one degree less than normal. The temperature is expected to be maximum 15-minimum 10 degrees on January 14, maximum 16-minimum 9 degrees on January 15 and maximum 16-minimum 10 degrees on January 17.
