Shock: LPG cylinder price becomes expensive during budget

No change in domestic LPG cylinder

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the country’s largest oil marketing company, has given a blow to inflation to commercial consumers. The price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has been increased. Commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased by Rs 190 per cylinder. At the same time, domestic LPG cylinders have given relief to consumers. Earlier last month, the oil marketing company had increased the price of domestic LPG cylinder by Rs 100 per cylinder twice. The company first raised Rs 50 on December 2 and thereafter again raised it to Rs 50 on December 15.

Review is done on monthly basis

LPG prices in India are fixed by oil companies and are reviewed on a monthly basis. Almost all households in India have LPG connection and are mainly used for cooking. The increase in LPG prices affects the common man in general as they have to bear the brunt of rising fuel prices in the current market scenario. The government gives subsidy which is directly deposited into the account. At the same time oil companies are also facilitating customers by running new schemes.

8 crore people benefit from gas cylinder subsidy

Under the Ujjwala scheme, 8 crore people in the country get the benefit of gas cylinder subsidy. Experts are saying that in most metros the subsidy is almost gone. But up to Rs 20 subsidy is being given to the beneficiaries living in remote areas. This money is also available due to transport costs. It is worth mentioning that in the financial year 2020-21, the central government allocated Rs 37,2565 crore for LPG subsidy.
